What is Chiropractic?Chiropractic is a regulated primary-contact health care profession that centers on the musculoskeletal system and nervous system. Derived from the Greek words “chiro” and “praxis” meaning “done by hand”, Chiropractors practice a manual approach, provide a diagnosis, develop individualized treatment plans, and provide education around injury prevention.
-
Do you need a referral from an MD to see a Chiropractor? No. Chiropractors are one of the largest primary-contact health professions in Ontario. The public can access chiropractic care without a referral.
-
What can I expect on my first visit? Our main objective on your first visit is to take a thorough health history so that we can get to know you, understand your needs and goals. Next, a physical exam will be performed so that we can determine what your issues are, their cause, and then determine how best to address them. You will be provided with an explanation of your condition and we will present you with treatment options that you can choose. If we determine that your health concerns, or condition would be best suited to another health professional, we will refer you to the appropriate person. We believe in the importance of collaborative care to better serve our patients.
-
Are x-rays always required? No. Certain conditions may require imaging to rule out more serious conditions or to assist us in reaching a diagnosis. This allows us to develop a treatment plan that is best suited to you and your condition. If we determine that diagnostic imaging, and or any other specialized tests are necessary in your case, we will refer you to the appropriate professional.
-
What is an adjustment?Another term for adjustment is joint manipulation. Chiropractors will often use manipulation as one of their tools to help restore function in a joint. This will help reduce pain, muscle spasms, and increase ranges of motion.
-
What is the “popping” sound that can be associated with an adjustment?Adjustment of a joint may result in the release of a gas bubble from between the joints. It is caused by the change in pressure within the joint.
-
Will my insurance cover the cost of my visits? Many insurance companies have benefits covering all or part of the cost for care. It is important to check your personal insurance benefits to determine what is covered by your plan. Payment at the clinic is due at the time of service. We will provide you with the appropriate receipts so that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
-
Do you bill directly to insurance companies? We only direct bill in certain circumstances. We will bill claims to Blue Cross Insurance for our Veterans, Military and for members of the RCMP. We are also an approved Service Provider registered with FSCO (Financial and Services Commission of Ontario), that allows us to bill directly to automobile insurance companies, for patients that have been injured in motor vehicle accidents. We are also registered providers with WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) and we bill directly to WSIB on behalf of injured workers that have an approved claim.

What are some examples of the conditions you treat?Patients consult Chiropractors for various reasons. Some of the common conditions treated with great success are: headaches, neck pain, back pain (upper, middle or low back), and other types of joint pains like shoulder, knee, and hip. Chiropractors also deal with nerve pain related to disc problems in the spine, and various nerve entrapment conditions. Chiropractors address gait, and foot problems that may be causing the body to compensate and develop into other health issues. Even if you don’t experience symptoms, chiropractic care can be an excellent add-on as part of your preventive health strategies, as it helps to maintain joint function and a healthy spine.
